RESIDENTS have been urged to make it more difficult for burglars after a series of so-called two-in-one break-ins occurred towards the end of 2025.
Two-in-ones - which see criminals gain entry to properties for the sole purpose of obtaining car keys - are high on Barnsley officers’ agendas, according to Superintendent Mark James.
He told the Chronicle that some prolific burglars had been released in November, sparking an upturn in five-year-low incidents.
“They’re now back behind bars and a number of these regular burglars were released in quick succession in November,” he added.
“It proved a challenge for the Probation Service and although we’re now on top of that, it nevertheless remains a focus as we’ve reduced burglaries for the last five years.
“Being the victim of a burglary is personal - a person’s home or car are big financial outlays and they’re a personal possession.
“The message to people is that burglars aren’t coming for televisions, they’re coming for cars, so it’s important to be aware and report anything suspicious.”
