A CHARITY art exhibition held at the Priory Centre last week raised more than half a tonne of food donations for Barnsley Foodbank Partnership.

Lyn McKevitt, who hosted the event on Friday and Saturday, asked for donations for the foodbank instead of locals paying a fee to attend.

It saw Barnsley’s boxing star Callum Simpson come down to view artwork inspired by him - and he was certainly left inspired by Lyn’s artwork.

More than half a tonne of food was raised for the foodbank, equating to approximately 1,628 meals.

And on top of that she managed to raise £430 to go alongside the donations, as well as £120 from the sale of artwork which will go towards the Priory Centre setting up their very own community foodbank.

Lyn told the Chronicle: “I’m in absolute awe of the generosity of people.

“I’m so proud of what everyone achieved.

“Without them I’m just a nurse who paints.

“I am grateful to every single person who either sponsored the event, promoted it, or turned up in support of it and helped to help others.

“I am truly humbled by all of you, and will be forever grateful.”
