Former Doncaster player James O'Connor and substitute Nathan Tyson scored the goals as Barnsley went down 2-0 at Derby County on Tuesday night and suffered their third successive defeat.

The first half was even in terms of chances although the hosts had more of the ball. Barnsley's Jacob Mellis and Chris Dagnall fired wide when well placed inside the box. At the other end, Luke Steele and Tom Kennedy made crucial blocks to deny Derby.

The hosts were more dominant after the break and Steele had to produce a fine save from Paul Coutts' freekick. The Barnsley goalkeeper got a hand on Richard Keogh's header a few minutes later but it trickled to the line where O'Connor tapped it in.

Stephen Dawson could have levelled with a late volley but one minute later Tyson blasted in a superb 25-yard screamer to make sure of the points.
