YOUNGSTERS at a local primary school have been working to raise awareness of the importance of looking after the planet through a new project.

The ECO leaders were elected by children in key stage two at Barugh Green Primary School and following their environmental review of ten different areas of school, they identified energy, the school grounds and marine life as areas to develop in their action plan.

They decided to create this recycled art to highlight the dangers of plastic pollution for marine life.

The whole school collected bottle tops which the ECO leads re-used to create banners promoting the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.

Headteacher Joe Woffinden told the Chronicle: “We are so impressed that our ECO leads have been so proactive in promoting the message of reduce, reuse, recycle.

“We’ve had a real focus on how we can all contribute to environmental initiatives at our school over the past couple of years and this is linked to our wider work on developing pupil leadership at Barugh Green Primary School.

“It’s great to see how much our young people care about the world around them and becoming influential, global citizens.”
