A HEROIC fireman took on the Barnsley 10k race in full gear in support of vulnerable youngsters.

George Georgeson spends his days at Penistone Fire Station, but last Sunday committed to breaking a sweat for a good cause.

Kitted out in his fire uniform and wearing an oxygen tank, the 20-year-old took his efforts to blazing new heights to raise vital funds and awareness.

Equipt Therapy Services CIO is a newly-formed local charity that helps children who have undergone trauma access qualified therapists.

Sandra Georgeson, George’s mum, is the charity’s trustee and it’s safe to say that helping others is a family affair.

She said: “I’m super proud of George, he cares about children and the charity work that I do.

“I was nervous for him because of the weather, I’ve tried on the oxygen tank he wore before and it’s really heavy.

“I think he’s raised awareness for the cause.”
