AN organisation has made its name by assisting vulnerable people in the community with home maintenance repairs.
A local roofer at Kingfisher Roofing and Maintenance, Danny Smith, set up a free-of-charge service to residents and it’s landed him a Proud of Barnsley nomination.
Danny has been doing repairs like this for some time now but has recently put the name ‘Operation Roofing Man’ to it.
In the beginning, he offered three services a month and has reached more than 100 people.
When asked why he began this initiative, he said: “I was fed up of hearing bad news and sick to death of hearing about rip-off roofing jobs.
“It makes me feel good to help people and to see them smile and there really is no amount of money you can put on that.”
Danny’s service was recognised by Glen Haigh after Danny helped his dad who had suffered a fall and cut to his head.
Without hesitation, Danny made sure Glen’s father got swiftly to hospital.
Glen said: “Following my father’s discharge from hospital Danny came to see how he was getting on.
“That is when he explained what he does and arranged to come back and clear the rainwater gullies at no charge to us.”
Since then, he has also made arrangements to modify the home’s front steps in order to make them safer.
Danny has said that his team are just ‘normal working lads looking to help out’, but to the community they mean so much more.
The operation has been widely recognised as a group who are working selflessly to spread kindness amongst the community.
The success of this organisation is apparent, as they have recently received an award on the national stage at the InstallerMERIT Awards.
The operation was successful based on their essential services provided to those in need within the local community.
On his recognition so far, he said: “It meant the world to me as I have never won anything before.
“I am so grateful to be recognised now.”
