A POLICE investigation has been launched following reports of young people injuring animals and birds at Worsbrough Mill.

The police say they have had numerous reports about the incidents and are currently trying to identify the offenders.

A spokesperson for Barnsley West’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Over the weekend our team conducted some reassurance and preventative patrols and we are pleased to say there were no issues identified.

“As we move into the school holidays, we would encourage people to report any incidents.

“Causing unnecessary suffering to animals is illegal and will not be tolerated.”

Coun Jake Lodge who represents the Worsbrough ward has condemned the actions of the youths.

He told the Chronicle: “Acts of cruelty towards any animal is intolerable and has no place in our community.

“I encourage anyone with information to report it to the police.
