A HIGHLY-respected headteacher at one of Barnsley’s new primary learning centres has been suspended from his post amid allegations he assaulted a pupil.

Martyn Beecham has not been at work at Littleworth Grange in Lundwood for about two weeks following the accusation.

Deputy headteacher Nicola Parker-Watts is running the school while the allegations against Mr Beecham are investigated. Nobody at Littleworth Grange was prepared to comment on the suspension but an education authority spokesman said: “We can confirm that an employee in a local school has been suspended.

“The suspension is without prejudice and is to allow a full and thorough investigation. In accordance with procedure the reason for the suspension and the nature of the investigation remains confidential.

“We can, however, confirm that the school is working very closely with the education department to secure the management of the school and to ensure that the education of the pupils remains unaffected.”
