Would-be market traders are being urged to set out their stall in Barnsley and help revitalise the town centre.

Free pitches are being offered to budding small business owners wanting to make their mark in the market world.

Barnsley Council has teamed up with the National Market Traders Federation to encourage entrepreneurs.

It is part of a scheme called First Pitch taking place from from May 15-29.

Those who take part can trade for free for up to five days - and if they have the nous, will continue to trade on the market for a further 12 months at a discounted rent.

They will also receive personalised support from the national federation.
