Barnsley manager David Flitcroft says he wants to bring in 'four or five' new faces over the summer and is expected to make an offer for Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris O'Grady.
The Reds boss has not revealed what positions he is looking to strengthen and his recruiting policy will depend on how many of the out-of-contract players sign new deals.
Veteran Rory Delap has returned to Stoke and Flitcroft refused to rule out a return for the long-throw specialist.
As for O'Grady, both the player and the Reds manager have said they want to make the move permanent after a successful loan spell from Sheffield Wednesday.
Flitcroft said: "Chris will be a lifelong friend of mine no matter what. It's the first time I've ever seen a loan player give his all to the cause. He gave every bit of his body for Barnsley and wants to be here.
"But he's a Sheffield Wednesday player with a year left on his contract. They might want to keep him, I'm not sure.
"We haven't opened negotiations there yet but of course he's a target. If it doesn't work out I won't get worried. I chased Martin Cranie for five weeks last season and I chased Tomasz Cywka and Jason Scotland. I'll keep going after players until I get them."
