Spider-man, X-Men and the Incredible Hulk are some of the comics Tim Quinn has worked on - and the Marvel illustrator and scriptwriter is coming to Barnsley.
A legend from the world of comic books, Tim spent many years working on classics such as Sparky, The Topper, Buster, Whoopee!, Bunty, Jackie, Dr Who Magazine, and Whizzer and Chips before heading to America to work for the Marvel Comics Group.
He will be in Barnsley later this month to hold a cartoon workshop for youngsters as part of the 'Try Reading' campaign being run by Barnsley Libraries.
The former Marvel editor and writer's workshop will include figure drawing, storytelling in pictures, character and story creation as well as talking about comic book history.
Tim said: "I grew up with comics and was lucky enough to work in the industry for more than 30 years alongside some of the best illustrators in the business.
"I still think there is a place for comics. It's a great way to encourage literacy and instil a love of reading."
The workshop, for children aged 11 and over, will be held at Worsbrough Library on Monday, October 28 at 2.30pm.
It is one of a series of events being held as part of the Try Reading campaign, which celebrates and promotes the sporting event of the year - Rugby League World Cup 2013. At the same time it is hoping to encourage more people to read or have a go at writing, drama or art.
Coun Jenny Platts said: "This event is an example of the great work going on between libraries and their partners, and just like rugby league clubs, libraries need supporters too."
