People in Barnsley turned out in force to pay tribute to the war dead at a Remembrance Sunday service held in the town centre.

Crowds had wrapped up warm and lined the streets around the war memorial outside Barnsley Town Hall to hear Mayor Coun Ken Richardson lead tributes alongside members of the Royal British Legion, former soldiers and service representatives.

Also present and marching were scouts and cubs groups, cadets and Royal British Legion members.

Police and fire service workers also turned out to pay their respects along with Barnsley Council officials including council leader Sir Steve Houghton and chief executive Diana Terris.
