HOYLAND'S police community support officers (PCSOs) are getting around to investigate crimes by public transport - including the bus.
The Chronicle was told that officers are sometimes hopping on buses to cover their area which takes in Tankersley, Birdwell, Hoyland Common, Elsecar, Jump and Hemingfield.
South Yorkshire Police said PCSOS were encouraged to use public transport.
Inspector Simon Leake, who looks after the North East Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Using public transport to travel between communities is part of a policy which improves visibility, engagement and reassurance and is not connected to austerity."
