FORMER Barnsley striker Bruce Dyer has started special coaching sessions at Greenfield school in Hoyland.

And there's more to it than learning how to land the ball in the back of the net.

Headteacher Andrew Ralph said: "Bruce comes in once a week and each session has a focus - it might be teamwork. The children take that into multi skills sessions in the school hall or outside playing sports like football or hockey.

"The children have responded incredibly well. It's about promoting positive values, communication and respect through a sporting context. We're delighted to start this new partnership with Bruce."

Bruce's career began in 1993 with Watford, before he became the country's first £1million teenager when he joined Crystal Palace in 1994. A committed Christian, Bruce spent five years with Barnsley FC.
