Big frontman George Waring feels his loan spell with the Reds is teaching him everything he needs to make a success of his career.
Stoke loanee Waring, 20, has played 17 games since joining Barnsley on loan in January. He dropped to the bench for only the second time on Saturday at Bristol City and watched replacement Jabo Ibehre's targetman masterclass.
Waring told the Chronicle: "Jabo played very well on Saturday. He showed a good use of his body, held the ball up and he scored a great goal as well.
"Being out of the team has given me a chance to freshen my legs up again and mentally refresh myself to push on for the final few games of the season. I'll keep my head down and try to get back in."
Waring felt he had to go out on loan from Stoke in order to gain experience of playing every week in senior football. He's proud that his five goals have played a part in getting Barnsley on form.
"When I saw where Barnsley were in the league I didn't think they should have been there because they are a big club and they should be up at the top fighting for promotion.
"There was always the potential to do it but I don't think we expected to go on quite the run we have been on. But the club is where it should be now. I think we have made up for the bad start.
"I've learned an awful lot about the different tricks of the trade that the older pros and defenders use against you. It has benefited me loads. My fitness has improved, my strength has improved and I think that, the more games that you get, the better it is for you. It's men's football and it's what I needed."
Waring was non-committal on whether he could be a Red again next season, saying: "I wouldn't rule anything out or say it's definitely going to happen."
