SEA CADET Adam Vamplew has been nominated for a Triumph over Adversity award after coming back from a near-fatal motorcycle accident to inspire others.

Adam, of Barnsley Road, Wombwell, has been involved with the Barnsley Sea Cadets for the last four years and holds the rank of senior cadet.

The aspiring 17-year-old engineer had his heart set on a career in the navy, until a motorbike accident in November last year saw him suffer extensive injuries.

Despite spending a month-and-a-half in hospital, walking with a stick and having to wear a frame to support his left leg, just a couple of weeks after returning home he was back helping his team train for the Area Drill Competition.

Although Adam can no longer join the navy as he would not pass the physical, he hasn't given up on his dreams of becoming a nautical engineer.
