CONTROVERSIAL plans to convert a Cudworth property into a full-time children's home have been approved by Barnsley Council.

Kirsten Gaskell's plans have drawn mixed opinions since the application was submitted in April, with petitions both against and in support being handed in to the council.

Planning officer Matthew Smith said: "The proposed use is for the care of three young persons with 24-hour care. As such the activity is considered similar to that of a family of two adults with three children and given that this level of activity could occur without the need for planning permission, an objection based on the activity or noise and disturbance in terms of residential amenity cannot be substantiated."
