WORRIED mum Dawn Jenkinson is stepping up her campaign to highlight the dangers of Barugh Lane.
After a serious two-vehicle collision on Saturday night resulting in three people being injured, she says pedestrians are particularly at risk on Barugh Lane.
Along with other residents she has been calling for action for several months because of concerns about cars and HGVs speeding along the main route for children attending Barugh Green Primary School.
“No-one should have to die for something to be done,” said Dawn who would like to see a weight and width restriction implemented and the speed limit emphasised.
Colin Thorne, of Old School Court, off Barugh Lane, said after a couple of meetings between residents, local councillors and council officers, the road remained an ‘accident waiting to happen’.
“Now it has happened and hopefully the council will be prompted into action,” he said.
Residents say there has been an increase in the general traffic and in the number of HGVs using Barugh Lane since the opening of the Dodworth bypass. Police said a silver Subaru Impreza travelling towards Darton clipped the nearside kerb just below Langdale Road. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Barugh Green, lost control of his car and swerved on to the other side of the road where he collided with a VW Golf.
The driver of the Subaru was uninjured but his passenger, a 36-year-old Darton man, was taken to Barnsley Hospital with minor injuries.
The female driver of the Golf sustained whiplash injuries and was taken to Hospital.
Her passenger suffered serious injuries and is in Barnsley hospital with a broken pelvis. Anyone with information should contact the South Yorkshire Police Accident Witness Line on Sheffield 0114 2202970.
