MORE than £8m is being spent on sprucing up run down areas.
Gateways into Barnsley, terraced housing just outside the town centre and parts of Carlton, Royston, Grimethorpe, Kendray will benefit from the grant funded scheme.
Private sector accommodation will be improved as well as public space during the council’s attempts to transform regeneration hot spots.
The works will include improving the exterior of houses, environmental projects plus access and facilities for the disabled.
Landlords will also be given help to carry out fire, safety, security and efficient energy programmes.
Residents are being consulted on the projects which the council says are designed to improve quality of life, reduce the cost of heating bills and boost the town’s appearance.
