PLANS to close the A628 Woodhead Pass overnight from Monday to Thursday next week have been criticised by local people.

The road will be closed from 8pm to 6am to allow resurfacing work and replacement of cats’ eyes to take place on the 14-mile stretch between the A616 Flouch Roundabout and the A57 Gun Inn at Hollingworth.

Dog and Partridge Inn owner and former Mayor of Penistone Steve Marsh is less than impressed about the news: “We are definitely not happy about it. Last year, the same road closed for five weeks and it was absolutely disastrous for the business.”
