A BARNSLEY man’s first attempt at making a documentary film - examining the loss of the mining industry and the history around it - has been shortlisted for a global award.
Prof Stephen Linstead made the film, called These Fragments, from a sense of concern that the heritage of the 20th Century mining industry is being quickly lost.
Because it was his first attempt at film-making, he financed the project himself rather than applying for grants, but hopes to screen it to help support fundraising work for a new memorial to mark the 150th anniversary of the Oaks Colliery disaster this year.
He has now been told it has been shortlisted in the Best Short Documentary category of the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards - a decision he says has left him feeling ‘still a bit dazed’.
