Beth England says she has completed half of her lifetime ambitions by signing for English champions Chelsea.

Kingstone's England, 21, joined the Blues this week and, in doing so, made the transition from being semi-professional to a full-time pro. That is one of her aims ticked off and now she wants to earn a call-up to the senior England team.

Beth told the Chronicle: "The last thing I ever imagined I'd do was become a professional footballer. I'd been semi-professional for the last five years at Doncaster Rovers Belles but now I'll be training every day with experienced players.

"I've worked in a bakery, a chip shop and at Marks and Spencer in Barnsley while I've been at the Belles. To now be playing at Chelsea is crazy. It hasn't sunk in yet.

"One part of my dream was to turn professional and the other part would be to play for the England senior team. "To do that would really be a dream come true."

England helped the Belles to promotion to the top flight as runners-up last season and scored 14 goals in all competitions but she will now join Chelsea ahead of their defence of the league and FA Cup titles. She is excited about the challenge and feels it was the right time to move on.

"I definitely think it's the right time. I'm still young but I had been at Rovers for five years. I'm massively proud of what I've achieved in my time at Doncaster, where we got promotion from the Women's Super League 2. But now I get the chance to work with more experienced players.

"I'm amazed that I have been given that chance. I will have to move away from home though and that's a bit depressing. Chelsea have got the best manager (Emma Hayes) and I'm looking forward to playing with Gemma Davison and Jo So-yun, who is an amazing player."

England believes her chances of a national call-up, to improve on her under 19 and 23 caps, will be boosted by moving to the champions and she also feels her role will change now.

"I was a winger for years but lately I've been the number ten in a sort of Wayne Rooney role," she added.

"I feel like I may end up back out wide but I want to be versatile." The fixtures for the new women's season are released next week.
