A BUDGET of £500,000 has been earmarked for CCTV under the town centre regeneration plans.

Council papers seen by council bosses this week gave an update on the Better Barnsley scheme and provided a breakdown of how its £50m budget will be spent.

An estimate of £500k has been allocated to security cameras as changing the layout of the town centre will impact on existing CCTV provision.

As part of the project, ongoing liaison is taking place with South Yorkshire Police to ensure that the required coverage is maintained and that new cameras are provided if required.
