IT was a nightclub where celebrities as diverse as Jedward, Coolio and Pixie Lott once performed but now it’s the trendiest looking church in Barnsley.
More than £3m has been spent in the last decade on the Wellington Street building known previously as Pharaoh’s, Tonic, Escapade, House and Bucca.
Despite all that spending it was derelict and trashed, rat infested and damp when Hope House Church got the keys last year and decided to begin the process of converting it to a house of God.
Incredibly they’ve only spent £40,000 thanks to ‘immeasurable’ volunteer hours which has transformed it into a modern, smart and contemporary new place of worship where an open day and an official opening will be held tomorrow.
