FLOODING didn’t stop these West Meadows kids taking a trip back to the ninth century.
The Jorvik Centre has been closed since Christmas due to flooding, so the teachers decided to make their own fun, by having a Viking Day at the Hoyland school.
Teacher Sally Oxspring said: “We had a fantastic day. All children had such a great time. We even had an authentic Viking meal. We had six different crafts including weaving, clay pot making, and the building of brooches and bracelets. We initially had a day planned at the Jorvik which had to be cancelled due to the flooding there. So Mrs Marsh organised this day instead. The catering staff cooked an authentic Viking meal - a pork roast with turnips, carrots and bread - they even cooked authentic oat cakes. The kids had a great day.”
