Barnsley were held to a goalless lunchtime draw at Bramall Lane to edge closer towards claiming a play-off spot.
The Reds came through a full blooded derby game with a point which could prove useful in their push for a play-off place.
Paul Heckingbottom made just one change from the side who snatched a vital late winner against Peterborough United midweek with Ashley Fletcher playing up front instead of Ivan Toney who dropped to the bench.
It was an even opening and Barnsley had to wait until the 17th minute for their first opportunity with Adam Hammill prodding Fletcher's cut back at Untied 'keeper George Long.
Reds' 'keeper Adam Davies was then called into action as he pushed Che Adams' powerful drive from outside of the box against the post and out for a corner as United pushed for the opener.
Fletcher then thought he had scored the opener after he dispossessed Ryan Flynn in the box but referee David Coote blew for a foul.
Fletcher fired wide the first shot of the second half.
Hamill then misplaced a shot wide after being set up by Lloyd Isgrove.
Davies had to be alert to deny a Billy Sharp chance moments later as the 'keeper rushed out of his box and headed clear with the striker in on goal.
Hammill then produced a wonderful solo effort but his shot from distance whistled just wide of the post.
Sharp was denied a chance again by Davies when he was just inches away from getting a touch on a dangerous ball in from substitute Martyn Woolford.
Marc Roberts denied a late United chance with a perfectly measured tackle on Conor Sammon in the box.
