Barnsley have agreed personal terms with Colchester United star George Moncur, making him their first capture since promotion to the Championship last month.

The Reds had a bid accepted last week for the 22-year-old, understood to be £550,000, and he will now join up with their squad for pre-season training next week.

Moncur netted 14 times for Colchester last season despite them being relegated from League One and him often playing in midfield.

He has scored in each of his last three games against the Reds, who are understood to have secured his signature ahead of League One club Peterborough United who also had a bid accepted.

A Barnsley FC statement said: "Barnsley Football Club is delighted to confirm Colchester United midfielder George Moncur has agreed personal terms today at Oakwell following agreement of the transfer fee with the U's.

"The sought-after midfielder was a wanted man after an excellent campaign for Colchester United and the 22-year-old will team up with the Reds for pre-season training.

"A product of West Ham's illustrious academy system, the talented midfielder scored 14 times last season, including twice against the Reds."
