SMALLER holes in salt shakers and thicker chips are some of the tactics being employed by takeaways in the borough’s battle against the obesity crisis.

Barnsley Council is working with takeaways as part of a ‘Tastier Takeaways’ project to reduce fat, salt and sugar in menus, explore calorie labelling options and promote healthy takeaway food choices.

The council’s regulatory services and public health teams, working with University of Huddersfield, are teaming up with local takeaway businesses for the scheme.
