A RUNDOWN town centre pub is reopening as a restaurant and bar and the new management has grand plans to lovingly restore the listed building.

The former Chicago Rock pub, on Island Corner, Wellington Street, will rise from the ashes to become Regency Bar and Grill - a Nandos-style eatery expected to open later this month.

Phil Booth, speaking on behalf of director Maria Ramos, who is managing the new bar and restaurant, said initial work to restore the building will focus on the ground floor - but there are big plans for the upper floor with a focus on children’s entertainment.

Mr Booth said: “We have put an advert out to gauge public interest and see what people might want to see upstairs.

“It’s not going to be another Hedonism or Mambos but something like a big soft play area and a laser quest.

“Downstairs it is going to be like a Nandos-style restaurant."
