The 20-year-old central midfielder has agreed terms with the Reds after impressing during several weeks on trial and appearances in friendlies for the first team and development squad.

He began his career at his hometown club Bordeaux, where he made six first appearances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League. He then moved to another French giant Paris Saint-Germain last year but only played in their B side.

"We will look to bring Sessi in," said Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

"I'm not sure when it will go through because international clearance can take a long time. He won't be playing this weekend. "There's no definitive answer to how quickly we will be able to sign him.

"It can be difficult but we are committed to making it work and getting it over the line. He wants to come and we want to bring him in."

D'Almeida will add to a central midfield section which current includes captain Conor Hourihane, Josh Scowen and George Moncur, who has also been used further forward in pre-season.

"He's someone to push our other players on,' said Heckingbottom.

"He's still only 20. He's shown some good qualities. He's athletic and brings energy and aggression and he is technically a very good player. He handles the ball well as you would expect from someone who has played with Paris Saint Germain and been on the bench for them.

"It's up to him to show that he deserves a place in the side.  We have got to work with him and teach him how we want to play.  But, with those qualities, he's got a chance. He's a way away from making a start for us at the moment. He might have a chance of getting on the bench soon but he has to earn that as well. He will have to show hunger and drive and perform in training."
