A RAFT of measures have been put in place to manage patient flow through Barnsley Hospital’s accident and emergency department and help get more patients seen within the first four hours.

Hospitals are required to meet a national target which stipulates 95 per cent of patients must be seen, admitted or discharged within four hours.

But Barnsley Hospital failed to meet this target in the four months from January to April.

It did meet the target in May and June before dipping again in July, and was on track for success in August.

In its monthly papers, Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) - which commissions the town’s health services - states the hospital’s rating with health watchdog Monitor could be at risk if the improvement is not sustained.
