THERE is fresh hope that an abandoned recreation ground could be brought back into use after doubts were made about its future.
The Miners’ Welfare Sports Ground, on Cemetery Road, Grimethorpe, has stood empty for months but the Chronicle can reveal that its owner, the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO), is in talks with an unnamed local group to take over the ailing facility which has become a hotspot for antisocial behaviour.
Coun Jeff Ennis told the Chronicle it was important that the ground is brought back into use.
