ABOUT 1,000 people turned out to try and catch a glimpse - or a selfie - with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn when he visited Barnsley on Saturday.

He addressed a supportive crowd of about 500 who packed into the miners’ hall at the NUM headquarters on Huddersfield Road, with people who didn’t manage to get a seat standing or squatting in any space they could find.

Several hundred more gathered outside the offices and he spoke to them before heading in for the formal rally inside.

He made a 35 minute speech prompting several thunderous rounds of applause, and was happy to pose for photographs and shake hands with dozens of fans as he threaded his way back out through the excited crowd and on to his next leadership campaign rally in Featherstone.
