A LONG-AWAITED industrial development at Dodworth that could create up to 450 new jobs has been approved even though council officials accept they do not know whether the area will be able to cope with the additional traffic.
Councillors have approved opening up a site covering more than 12 acres on the Capitol Park site, off the Dodworth bypass, for uses which could include general industry and distribution.
The plan to invest in the area has been welcomed by councillors, though the local authority acknowledges the road system in the area is likely to experience congestion so bad they cannot even predict the scale of the impact.
Planning officer Steve Kirkham said: "Highways matters have been assessed in detail. It is accepted there is significant congestion at peak times."
