A POWER plant which could generate electricity in times of high demand could be built on a former coking plant in Royston.
Monckton, on Lund Hill Lane, was the subject of two public consultations in February where the site’s owners, Hargreaves, unveiled their initial plan for a 450-home development.
The Chronicle can reveal that part of the land could be retained for a future housing scheme but public feedback from the consultation - which urged the Durham-based firm to incorporate some form of industrial use into its plan - although no jobs will be created as the plant would be unmanned.
