A SIX-FOOT burglar assumed little Claire Leech wouldn’t put up much resistance when he bumped into her as he fled from the back door of a house.

But brave police community support officer Claire refused to let him get away easily and managed to cling on to him until police officers arrived and arrested him. She sustained significant injuries to her hands, arms and legs in the process.

“I got there just as he was coming out,” said Claire, who lives in Ardsley but works for West Yorkshire Police and was responding to the report of a burglary in the Holbeck area of Leeds.

“We ended up having a bit of a grapple. He was quite a big bloke, 6ft, and I’m only 5ft and a tab end. He obviously didn’t want to be apprehended.”
