A BUS firm has been praised for stepping in to save a local service from the axe.
Service 193 connects villages including Havercroft, Royston, Ryhill and South Hiendley with Barnsley and Wakefield but its original operator, Arriva, announced it was cutting the service from October 31, citing low passenger numbers.
However, Waterson’s Coaches will take over the running of the 193’s route later this month following pressure from local residents and councillors, meaning one bus per hour will continue to serve the villages.
