A RETIRED couple determined to keep the grass verge on the pavement outside their home nice and stop it being churned up into a muddy quagmire say they are facing a never-ending battle against vandalism and red tape.
Kevin and Nora Eastwood were fed up of the grass verge outside their Monk Bretton home being ruined by cars running up the kerb to park on it, churning the grass up and leaving it a mess.
They have put time and money into their quest. They even spent almost £600 on attractive granite boulders to mark the edge of the verge and stop people parking, but these have now been confiscated by the council who sent two trucks to carry them away.
“It’s just so annoying,” said Nora, 65, of Tennyson Road. “You just try and do something to make the street look nice, and people won’t let you. They stop you at every turn.”
