CONFUSION remains as to how a new high speed railway will affect people in Barnsley, despite the government announcing its preferred route.
The majority of the preferred route has been confirmed, but not the final route through South Yorkshire, leaving people across the area in limbo.
Plans to build a new station at Meadowhall and continue the line through Barnsley appear to have been ditched for the government’s preferred plan, which is to cut through parts of Rotherham, Mexborough and skirt the edge of Barnsley near Brierley.
It means that the original proposals, to cut through swathes of Barnsley, are likely to be dropped, along with the Meadowhall station plan and trains would instead run into Sheffield on a spur line.
