BARNSLEY police bosses have warned they will not tolerate attacks on their officers.
Figures obtained by the Chronicle revealed that assaults on local police officers have continued to rise dramatically.
Superintendent Shelley Hemsley, from Barnsley police, said: “Our officers and PSCOs come to work every day not knowing what potential incidents they may face or the dangers they could find themselves in when they respond to the public’s calls for help.
“Assaults on police officers or staff are absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“They will be recorded and investigated, as would any other form of assault against a member of the public.
“We also have internal processes to support officers and staff who are victims of assaults.”
