Before the end of the transfer window Barnsley face back-to-back games against opposition they beat 4-0 earlier on in the season.
Saturday's opponents Rotherham United may be rock bottom but head coach Paul Heckingbottom believes their players are performing much better under caretaker boss Paul Warne.
Heckingbottom said: "Rotherham have been picking up some good results under Paul and we know they can be dangerous because they have shown it in lots of games.
"They may not have got the results or been able to sustain it for 90 minutes but it would have been a different game had they gone in front against Newcastle last week and had something to hold on to.
"We know their threats and that they are working extremely hard. They are playing for their new manager and it's another Yorkshire derby so it's going to be a good atmosphere and a good energetic game.
"I hope there is going to be lots of quality and I hope we come out on top."
Alan Stubbs and Kenny Jackett have both left permanent positions as Rotherham manager this season with former fitness coach Warne now in charge until the end of the season.
Under Warne, a former Rotherham player, the club have restored some pride with three wins, against QPR, Wigan and Norwich City, but they still remain nine points away from safety and only Sunderland have fewer points than them of all the 92 football league clubs.
They have however conceded the most goals of any professional club in the country with 60 and have an alarming goal difference of minus 33. The Millers have not beaten Barnsley since 1982 with Barnsley winning five of the eight meetings since including the 4-0 thumping back in August.
Aidy White is in line to face his former club while Rotherham midfielder Will Vaulks was a summer transfer target for Barnsley. Similarly, Rotherham were linked with a move for the then Walsall frontman Tom Bradshaw.
Before the window closes on Tuesday night, Barnsley face Wolves at Oakwell, who they humiliated in the reverse fixture back in September.
Walter Zenga was soon replaced by Paul Lambert who has moved them eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Wolves have picked up just one point from their last five trips to Oakwell since 2000.
