A DOMESTIC abuse charity is bracing itself for serious cutbacks in the coming months after missing out on a major contract with the council that would have funded vital services.

Pathways Family Support Centre, based on Peel Parade in Barnsley, supports men and women suffering from domestic abuse or violence and also works with perpetrators who recognise their behaviour is abusive and want help.

But the charity, which has provided front line help in Barnsley for more than 20 years, faces turbulent times after failing to win a three-year contract with Barnsley Council that would have seen it become the main provider of a comprehensive domestic and sexual violence support service in the borough.

It means people will no longer be referred to Pathways by the council, as is the case now, and instead they will be made to the new provider, which the Chronicle understands is a York-based firm.
