THE OWNERS of a horse discovered dead in Bolton Upon Dearne are paranoid her attackers could strike again.

Ten-year-old Rubi was discovered dead in the field off Billingley View at approximately 2.30pm on Sunday.

She had a swollen stomach, discoloured gums and blood from her back end, and owners Jill and Ashleigh Shotton said she died as a result of toxic poisoning.

Rubi’s death comes just a month after two of the family’s other horses also nearly died from a mysterious poisoning.

Three years ago, another horse, Billy, also died of poisoning.

Jill said: “If it wasn’t for a neighbour finding them last month, we would have lost those two. And now this has happened.

“They are friendly horses, they don’t do anything. Kids going back and forth to school and the OAPs who live nearby all come and visit them.”
