A NEW way of tackling nightmare neighbours is being used in Barnsley - and is dramatically reducing crime and disorder on the estates.
Troublesome tenants are now being made the subject of anti-social behaviour injunctions by the town's safer neighbourhood unit.
Manager Paul Brannan said the 'Asbis' - which are much easier to secure than Asbos - are so successful because householders face eviction if they are breached.
This week the SNU was preparing seven Asbi applications to take to the county court. If granted they will tackle a range of complaints including cultivation of cannabis, threatening behaviour and general nuisance.
Mr Brannan said: "Asbis are effectively a prohibition order like an Asbo and depending on the severity of the issue people can face criminal action for breaching it.
"But the key difference is it has to be linked to the authority's housing management function."
