A MAN who was accused of dropping a cigarette end on the ground by town centre enforcement officers insists he couldn’t have done it because he has never smoked in his life.

Craig Farthing was walking on John Street near Morrisons at about 6.30am last Friday morning when he was approached by a male enforcement officer who said he and his two colleagues sitting in a nearby car had seen him drop a cigarette end on the floor.

Craig, 42, of Blenheim Avenue, Barnsley, challenged the officer and told him he didn’t smoke and never had done, but he said the officer was adamant he and his colleagues had seen him drop a cigarette end as he walked over a pedestrian crossing.

He said: “The man said they would let it go this time, but I wasn’t happy with that because I knew I hadn’t done it. I went to the car where there were two women. One said she had seen me throw a tab end on the floor and I explained that I don’t smoke.”
