A BARNSLEY school is insisting all students wear uniform trousers or skirts which bear the school logo from September, prompting criticism from a councillor who says it’s an unnecessary expense for parents.

Barnsley Academy at Bank End already requires students to wear black blazers with an embroidered logo, but currently parents are free to choose their own trousers and skirts - although there are strict standards they must meet.

Skirts must fall no more than four inches above the knee, and trousers must not be too tight - they must hang ‘at least 5-10cm from the ankle’ when the hem is held out.

But the new policy, to be brought in from September, means they will have to wear school branded items which will make sure students can only wear trousers and skirts which have been deemed appropriate.
