A PROJECT that teaches woodworking skills to men has been awarded more than £250,000 in lottery funding so it can be expanded to help more blokes across Barnsley.
The Men in Sheds project, run by Age UK Barnsley, was piloted in Cudworth two years ago and provides carpentry and wood-turning activities for older men who want to get together and learn new skills in the man-friendly space of a shed.
It is one of two men’s shed projects in Barnsley - the other is run by community interest company, Inclusion in Action.
The £280,000 lottery funding secured by Age UK Barnsley will be used over five years to help its project reach more men and it is the process of securing suitable new premises within central Barnsley where it can teach simple woodworking skills.
