HEADTEACHER Jacqui Parr asked for a school fit for the 21st century. What she got was a building which put the old Darton Primary into the dark ages.
Wandering around the state-of-the-art classrooms it was hard to believe that staff and pupils had only moved premises in June as not even a pencil case seemed out of place.
The 285 pupils at the school, which opened on Wednesday, looked as though they had always been part of the modern fixtures and fittings as everyone seemed settled in their new surroundings.
Luke Newlove and Mary Walker, both in year 6, were eager to give the school a big thumbs up, a sentiment strongly echoed by the staff and parents.
“I really like the school because it is a lot brighter and more colourful than the old one,” said Mary.
“We have lots of new things like the climbing frame in the hall and we have better choices for PE because we have got a lot of equipment now.”
In addition to having a large playground and playing field to burn off energy, children can also use multi-use games areas during breaks.
The enclosed pitches were specifically designed for youngsters to play anything from netball to football and no additional equipment is needed.
