Barnsley have signed French full-back Dimitiri Cavare from Stade Rennais for an undisclosed free on a two-year deal.
The 22-year-old knows Reds chief executive Gauthier Ganaye after they were at Lens at the same time.
Cavare was on trial with Premier League Huddersfield Town this summer, playing at Oakwell in a friendly, but has chosen to join Barnsley.
The signing of the former France under 20s man is subject to international clearance and he will not be registered in time for Saturday's derby at Sheffield United.
