ALLAN and Anita Broadhead have made the heart wrenching decision to close their ‘Hogspickle’.

The converted shed in the garden of their Cawthorne home, has been a treatment and recuperation centre for hundreds of sick and injured hedgehogs over the past six years.

But Allan, 79, and 64-year-old Anita will close the region’s best known hedgehog hospital within the next few months.

The say the emotional cost of caring and loving the prickly but engaging animals has proven to be even greater than the financial cost - which runs to around £3,500 a year and takes all the money they have got.
